Mikel Arteta pleased with the recent performances of Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that he has been pleased with the performances of Nicolas Pepe since the resumption of the season. The Ivory Coast international has experienced a mixed debut campaign with the north London side but he has still contributed eight goals and eight assists from 36 appearances in all competitions.

Since the restart, the 25-year-old has bagged two goals from four games in all competitions and Arteta has definitely seen an improvement in the forward’s displays. He told in a press conference:“I’m very excited about what he’s bringing to the team this season. I think he has made a click, I think he realises what he needs to do for the team as well when we don’t have the ball. I’m so pleased today, if you see his defensive action it’s incredible what he was doing. And then with the ball he gives us the creativity, the flair that big teams need.”

The north London outfit made the worst beginning after the COVID-19 break with back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion but they have since redeemed themselves with three wins on the bounce. They have not been overly convincing during those victories, but they have managed to score when it has mattered.
At present, the club are placed eighth on the table with 46 points and they are eight points adrift of the Champions League positions. They are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road this weekend and the game remains a must-win, if they are to keep their slender chances of qualifying for the elite competition next season.
Pepe played only eight minutes of the recent Premier League clash against Norwich City where the Gunners picked up a 4-0 win. He should make the starting lineup for the upcoming clash at the Molineux Stadium.
