Vieira confident of Dzeko stay

Even though Edin Dzeko cost Manchester City no less than £27m in January last year, there has always been constant speculation about his future at the Etihad Stadium. However, football development executive Patrick Vieira claims that talk of an exit for the Bosnian is complete rubbish and there is no chance he will leave City for rumoured destination Juventus.

Despite arriving with such a promising reputation, it would be fair to say that Dzeko has struggled to establish himself in the City first team. Roberto Martini tends to use him from the bench these days, although he has at least shown signs of excellent form this term following a return of seven goals for club and country. Moreover, with the latest strike occurring against Real Madrid, the former Wolfsburg striker is at least proving that he has what it takes to succeed against Europe's elite.

However, while Dzeko has started the season in very positive fashion, there have been constant rumours about his future. Italian outfit Juventus seem to have been the most talked-about destination, but Vieira claims that there's no chance of such a move happening. Speaking to Tuttojuve.com the former midfielder said, "Dzeko to Juve? For us he is a key player. Did you see that goal he scored against Real Madrid [on Tuesday]? I'm sorry for the Bianconeri fans but the extraordinary strikers do not move from Manchester."

However, while Dzeko may have impressed through recent weeks, it remains to be seen just how frequent his opportunities become over the next few weeks. With Sergio Aguero now returning to full fitness following his problematic injury, Dzeko is likely to be pushed down the pecking order some more. Still, it would appear unlikely for Roberto Mancini to sell the forward right in the middle of the campaign in the January transfer window.
